On the Kodaira Matsuri

Wan Ting's town had a matsuri today, so I went to look see. [conveniently forgetting about the pile of hw and the tests on monday that I uh decided not to study for]


The name of the town is KODAIRA, written as 小平。 The festival basically consists of a parade, where you have the boy scouts and girl guides, military bands, dancing grps and civil grps from every corner of the town in a parade/ march, followed by a race in which the various religious organizations [think chruch, shrine, temple] as well as the 'main org' from various avenues in the town compete by carrying floats that 'represent' the avenue they come from... or at least that's what I gathered. A few streets were totally closed to traffic just for the matsuri, and all schools along that stretch of road seemed to be having a fair.

Was super amused at how the balloons here are like upgrades of the singapore versions.

This is the tea ceremony corner of the matsuri.

Seems that this game is a must-have at most of the local matsuris. The gist of it is trying to catch fish with a flat paper net.
